Not many people are aware of the extensive beauty that surrounds the city of Marbella. It’s beautiful mountains are perfect for trekking and nature lovers. Due to its privileged location between the Mediterranean and the base of the Sierra Blanca mountain range, Marbella enjoys a microclimate that provides a warm temperature throughout the year, ideal for those who love to stay active, enjoy nature and the outdoors.

Here are some tips and favorites hikes, to experience the lesser-known part of the great outdoors.

LA CONCHA MOUNTAIN

La Concha is possibly the icon of Marbella, this mountain with a height of 1200m is the highest point in the city and can be seen from any part of the city. At the top, you will find the ideal spot to appreciate the best views of the Mediterranean Sea, the Costa del Sol, the Sierra de las Nieves, Africa and Gibraltar.

There are 2 main routes to reach the concha, the first is by ISTAN, which, although it has a shorter route, is more demanding than the second route that begins at the Juanar Refuge, and is not a difficult route.

For those who do not want to climb to the top, there are other shorter and easier trails that also start from the Juanar refuge, such as:

– El Mirador del Corzo- a very simple path of 500 meters to an observation point, with spectacular views.

– The Mirador del Macho Montès is a popular option among families with young children. The path is clear and well-marked, it crosses olive groves (1.3 km) to a viewpoint overlooking Marbella.

– The Cruz de Juanar is another option and a little higher. About an hour walk each way.

BENAHAVIS RIVERWALK

The town of Benahavis is a short drive from Marbella and Estepona, located in the Sierra Blanca mountains. A small and charming mountain town, ideal for those who want to include in their trip to Marbella an authentic Spanish experience.

You can take a walk in the surroundings and then visit the town and have lunch in one of the restaurants in the main square.

For nature lovers, there is a secret place to find fresh river water and a stream to walk, swim and cool off.

To make this route, you have to park your car in this location and walk along the road to Benahavis until you reach this point where the route across the river begins. This route lasts approximately 2 hours at a quiet pace, and the only thing you need to bring is a swimsuit, and shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. Walk, swim and refresh until you reach the end of the route, where your vehicle will be parked.

EL CHARCO DEL CANALON- ISTAN

If you are looking for a quiet place to disconnect and not find large numbers of people, here we offer you an option that most people are unaware of.

The Charca del Canalon is simply a paradise. Crystal clear waters that come down from the mountain, waterfalls, pools hidden among the rocks in the middle of nature, if you are looking for something completely different, something completely natural and only 8 km from the town of Istán, then a visit to the Charco del Canalón is the solution. You couldn’t hope for a better place to have a family picnic. The Charca del Canalon refers to one of the largest river pools in the Verde River. There are several larger sections for swimming, jumping, and a couple of waterfalls that provide a fantastic massage. The whole area is relatively intact and if you are looking for a quiet place for you it should not be too difficult to find (weekdays are always quieter). You can always go further up the river and find more secluded places.
